Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 returns to Hawkins through animation, placing its protagonists in the winter of 1985. Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas and Max face a new paranormal threat in an adventure expanding the Stranger Things world. It is neither an animated remake of the opening season nor a numbered season of the live-action series.

The Hawkins group in a different adventure
The familiar characters share the story with Nikki Baxter, a new addition to this branch. Animation returns to a specific period in their lives using a different voice cast from the live-action ensemble. Different voices do not make each character a new identity within the story. Use the names and relationships to orient yourself rather than trying to recognize the voices of the actors from the original show.
Where it belongs in the Stranger Things timeline
The winter 1985 setting places Tales From ’85 between Stranger Things seasons two and three. That establishes the group’s stage of life without automatically requiring you to interrupt the original show. For a first visit, our suggestion is to become familiar with its opening two seasons, then decide whether to explore this branch or continue the original route. Keep each series as its own block so their episode numbering stays clear.
Animation does not mean repeating the same events
This version introduces new monsters and its own Hawkins mystery. As a companion, it offers another adventure with the group rather than replacing live-action episodes with illustrated versions. Watch how the friends cooperate and which clues connect the danger to their surroundings. The starting premise does not require reading the ending of Stranger Things or theories about its final season. Treat the mystery presented here as something to discover in its own sequence.

Begin with the first episode of Tales From ’85 and continue in order. If your last visit to the original was a while ago, recall the group and Hawkins’ general situation at the end of season two; avoid summaries extending into season three and beyond. The format changes, but this remains a story of paranormal threats. Check the classification of the edition you plan to watch rather than assuming animation removes frightening material.
