Bourne watch order: where The Bourne Legacy fits

A five-film route through Bourne that explains the Aaron Cross branch without turning it into a confusing franchise restart.

The first-time sequence

Follow release order: The Bourne Identity → The Bourne Supremacy → The Bourne Ultimatum → The Bourne Legacy → Jason Bourne. Keep both title and year in your watchlist if a service uses translated names. Staying with release order avoids starting with explanations that the earliest films deliberately frame as unanswered questions for a new viewer.

The Aaron Cross branch

The Bourne Legacy changes the lead: Jeremy Renner plays Aaron Cross, while Matt Damon plays Jason Bourne in the main strand. It is not a remake of the first film. Our recommendation is to place it after The Bourne Ultimatum so you have the world’s existing context before returning to Jason Bourne.

Two routes for different schedules

For a Damon-centred route, watch the first, second, third and fifth films, and save Legacy as an expansion. For the five-film route listed here, keep the entire release sequence. The shorter option is not an alternative chronology; it is a character-focused selection with a branch you have chosen to postpone.

Keep the thread between sessions

After each film, make two brief notes: what Bourne remembers and who is searching for him. Those questions help you return a week later without looking up future answers. Check the availability of every entry before planning a marathon. A platform may carry only some of them, and its carousel is not a reliable viewing sequence.
